When you inject Orthovisc into your patient’s knee, the joint is given the lubrication and cushioning it needs to function in a pain-free manner. This pain relief can last up to around 6 months before another Orthovisc treatment is needed.
Orthovisc is an injectable, clear, viscoelastic solution indicated for relieving osteoarthritis pain. Orthovisc’s main ingredient is ultra-pure, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, which is similar to the hyaluronic acid normally found in the synovial fluid of the joints. Unlike some forms of hyaluronic acid, Orthovisc is made in the lab from bacterial fermentation, not from avian sources. This means it is less likely to cause allergic reactions in patients with egg or bird allergies.
