Description
MYOBLOC®, also known as NEUROBLOC®, is made from a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. This toxin blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in muscles so that your patient’s nerves cannot tell their muscles to contract. When you inject small amounts of MYOBLOC® into your patient, it can stop the treated muscles from contracting, relaxing those muscles. In Cervical Dystonia patients, this can stop the abnormal muscle contractions. In wrinkle patients, this can stop the muscles from forming lines and wrinkles on the surface of the skin.
MYOBLOC® and NEUROBLOC® are approved to treat Cervical Dystonia, which is an abnormal head position and neck pain, also called Torticollis. However, since MYOBLOC® is similar to BOTOX®, many doctors use MYOBLOC® for many similar uses, such as treating hyperhidrosis, which is excessive perspiration, and for cosmetic procedures such as correcting facial wrinkles and creases.
